sur la beauté
Hey, I did it. I treated myself to a fiction book. No kidding, it was just a book, the first one in something like six months. Ages. And it feels right, reading just a book from time to time :-) Zadie Smith is brilliant. She makes this utterly enjoyable firm high quality flowery funny very realistic modern prose. She peoples her books with these charming blokes and lassies of all colours and nationalities - she's fantastically intercultural, in fact, you dive into a new world with her, be it Indian or Pakistani in the UK or Haiti community and East Coast versus West Coast bros in the US. She's so nicely teasing when moulding their lively portraits you just immediately feel at home among them crazy folks. She's charmingly intellectual, she draggs you playfully into the meanders of ideological fight between liberals and neocons, taking liberal out of the liberal arts, and you say ahh knowingly. She's just good :-) So that was fair enough, though her very first book,
So that's it. Bliss :-)
